I’m Kirsty Hammond. I write Young Adult sci-fi and fantasy from my home in Ayrshire, Scotland, and I’ve always had a soft spot for out-of-this-world stories— whether that’s magic, distant galaxies, or underdogs saving the day.

I’ve been a member of Ayr Writers’ Club since 2016, and my stories have been shortlisted for the Scottish Arts Club Flash Fiction Award and the Bridport Flash Fiction Prize. I’ve also been lucky enough to win the Scottish Association of Writers’ Silver Thistle Award twice for a teen novel. In 2021, my work was published in the Scottish Book Trust’s Celebration anthology for Book Week Scotland.

In 2024, I published my debut short-story collection, A Lullaby for the Warrior Maiden — a book full of fairytales, magic and characters finding their own path.

If my bio makes it sound like I know what I'm doing, I might need to think about a rewrite. What I do know is that I love writing. And reading. And pizza, but that's probably not relevant.
